A versatile piece
I like this shirt, but I think its too expensive for how casual it is. The shoulders were a little too tight at first because I have broad shoulders and its cut a bit narrow, but the fabric stretched a little after wearing it a few hours. I love how soft it is and the length is lovely. With a nice belt it could be dressed up a little bit, but I'd consider it a very casual over the jeans piece, yet versatile enough to wear over other pants and boots as in the picture. I got the red one and the plaid is smaller than the blue one shows, and is sort of a rust color, rather than a true red. My husband said it sort of looked like a robe at first, so it IS a bit shapeless. Overall, I love it, but I feel its too expensive really.
This is a cute maxi. I got this in XS in Newman Blue. It's a good roomy fit. I really like throwing this on with a belt otherwise it look like a night gown to me. I'm a bit weary about the material though. I've had one other free people dress with the same material and the sleeve immediately ripped once I tried it on at home.
Runs very large, very cheap material, more like a nightgown. Color in photo is not at all what the actual item looks like. Color is faded, dull.....where is Free People going....I have loved their clothes but now it looks as if they order from cheap manufacturers.....
Looks like pajama
I loved the concept and ordered an XS blue. The size fit fine. The length was ideal but the baggy cut combined with the plaid flannel just felt way too pajama like. I tried to unbutton about 1/3 of the lower buttons and belt it but it didn't help. Returned it. For reference. The material is mid thickness and is nice and soft. I am 5'3" 125, curvy athletic and wear a FP XS. The fit was perfect but the design was lumpy looking.
cozy cozy cozy
this dress is super soft and comfortable. I am 5'3' and a 36DD and ordered the XL and its great! (I am a FP 10-12 so the body is loose but the chest fits) It comes down a little lower than mid calf on me. Ill wear it as a dress with boots, or open with jeans, or partially open with a solid dress slip underneath. I got the denim blue and its wayyy darker in person (which I was so happy about!) love this dress. It will be a staple in my closet for several years.
Pleased first but sad later
I loved the blouse the first time I fount it and quickly I ordered one, and anxious to receive the package. I tired it on immediately I received the package and liked it so much, the length, the color and the design, and planed to wear it for the next day's party. However when I put it on the next day, my husband found there were many small holes on the right side of the blouse, and also lines, I was very sad and had to take it off and choose another one for party .Also, I have planned to take it to national park for picture for the labor's holiday from 9/5-9/7 , now I have to give up since no time for me to exchange. Unfortunately, I did not keep the tag and receipt, and not sure if I can return it.I hear I could take it to store to get it return, right? Finally, I am the fans of FP, I do wish FP check carefully the quality before sending out, it will be waste of time and money for return.
Hi canthy1020a, We're sorry to hear about your Plaid Maxi. Someone from our team will be in touch soon. - Free People
I rarely (almost never) wear dresses these days. I ordered this one because it reminded me of my hippie days but more current. My mature body loves the shape of it -- very forgiving. The large is a bit snug across my 38C bust but I inside pinned it so it would not pull. I wore it to a meeting and got compliments. The weight is perfect for FL weather. This is my new go to outfit.
not a maxi, but cute
Not sure why this dress is called a 'maxi' - it hits at mid-calf on me, and I'm only 5' tall. I'm size 4-6 on top, 32DD, size 2 on bottom, and got this dress in size S. It fits true to size in the shoulders but pulls a bit through the bust. It fits better if I wear sports bra that squashes my chest a bit. Through the body, though, it's quite loose. Not really oversized, but it's has a sort of A-line shape with extra room through the waist and especially the hips. Looks cute belted or with a jacket/cardi, and I may try wearing it open like a coat as I saw in one of the style photos. I got the red and it's pretty true to the photo except it's red and navy; I thought it was red and black. But that's OK, it will still work with black boots/jacket etc. I love the fabric. I don't think it's thin, though it's not especially warm. It's a double gauze-like fabric, super soft, and the lining is a navy check, which looks cute when the sleeves are rolled up. I love the pockets, but they do add a bit of bulk through the hips. I would recommend choosing your size based on your bust and shoulders because there's plenty of room in the hips.
will need some work, but worth the effort
I ordered this dress in my usual xs in the olive green color and I'll agree the color dress I received was a little more flat olive than the mustard plaid pictured. The dress is completely straight all the way down, and I'll have to do a little tailoring to give it a little bit of shape because the flat shapeless look doesn't work on me at all. However, I think half an hour of rudimentary tailoring it'll look much better. I may take up the hem a little too, but this dress will be so fabulous when I'm done that it's definitely worth the effort so I gave it 5 stars. To compare size, I'm 5'7", 120# and a pant size 27 (2-4 US). The arms of the xs fit perfectly and it still has some room everywhere else. I'm surprised other reviews said it was a little thin because as far as FP usually goes, i think this material is on the thicker side. It's as thick as any of their usual plaid skirts or shirts (probably equivalent to 2 layers of t shirt). I personally think this dress is awesome and after a little touching up it'll be a knockout.
